Simplify, Simplify! Making Life in Concord Easier, More Interesting and More Fun
Compiled by The Staff of the Concord Magazine,

Life is complex, no? Most of us have too much to do and too little time to do it in...not to mention we aren't having enough FUN. Hrmph!

This page is dedicated to making life in Concord a little easier, more interesting and more fun. Send us your tips, short pieces, fascinating facts and brief ponderings for inclusion in a future issue!

Recycle Your Printer Cartridges

For the past year, we've been having trouble finding a way to recycle used printer cartridges. But our old sources failed us. Then lo and behold: our own West Concord 5&10 now takes them. Just drop them off there -- both laser and ink jet.

Three Decades of Concord Hair

Congratulations to The Hair After on Thoreau Street, this fall celebrating 30 years in business in Concord. Robert -- no doubt one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys in town -- cuts, colors and perms men and women and children from 1 to 101. Thirty years is certainly impressive, given how many other businesses have come and gone in that time.

Before you Paint

The Concord Department of Public Works has the most amazing service for anyone painting furniture or their house (inside or out): the paint shed. Here, people drop off usable but unwanted paint, stain, and paint-related products of all kinds. They are available for free to residents, businesses, and contractors for reuse -- all in excellent condition. We found exactly the primers we needed -- one even in a brand-new, full gallon can. Located at the Town Composting Site (former Town Landfill) on Route 62 off Route 2. Open Saturdays April to October from 9 AM-3 PM. (more info here)

Beautiful Berry Bounty

This seems to have been a banner year for wild berries. Was it the combination of a mild winter and early rains that did it? Who can say? But wild blackcap raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and mulberries have all been exceptional in both quantity and quality.

But what about wild blackberries, you might ask? We wish we could say. We've been looking for a good patch the past couple of years and find all our old favorites either hopelessly overgrown by poison ivy or torn out by new construction. Do you know of a good patch you'd share with us?. We promise to keep its location a secret...

Become a Pioneer

cheese!!Do something very few people have done: use a public restroom on the Milldam. After over a century of planning, arguing, haggling and bemoaning, Concord FINALLY has public toilets downtown. Located in the new Visitor Center on Main Street (next to Middlesex Bank), they are not only fully functional but really quite nice. Automated flush, sinks and hand dryers...clean, well-lit, nicely built and decorated. Heck: we would have been satisfied with far less and are simply giddy with happiness at what we've been given.
