By the Staff of the Concord Magazine with special thanks to D. Michael Ryan and the Concord Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee.
In our last issue, we published a list of Patriot's/225th Anniversary events . Below are additional activities occurring in Concord.
For more events in the Lincoln and Lexington portions of Minuteman National Historical Park, see here. As we said last time: there is much more happening all around eastern Massachusetts connected with this holiday, and you can find a more exhaustive list here.
The Patriots Ball will take place on Saturday, April 15th at the Concord Armory from 7:30 PM to midnight. Music of the colonial period as well as more modern, the dress is semi-formal, ceremonial or military uniforms, or 18th
century dress. There is a grand march to the Wright Tavern at midnight to witness the re-enactment of Dr. Prescott's horseback warning of the coming of the British Regulars. Tickets may be purchased at the Colonial Inn, Carr's Sports, West
Concord 5 &10 and the West Concord Pharmacy.
The kids can join the "Make Your Own" program at the Major Buttrick House, Liberty Rd., at the Minuteman National Park, Concord on Sunday, April 16th from 1-4 pm.
After the Patriot's Day Parade, post-parade festivities at the Old North Bridge include meeting neighbor Rev. William Emerson and hearing
his "Rights & Duties of a Christian Soldier" sermon immediately after the parade on Monday, April 17th.
Although it is not true that Paul Revere reached Concord on his famous "Midnight Ride" on April 18/19, 1775 (Dr. Samuel Prescott did manage to get here to sound the alarm...and Revere did visit Concord a couple of days earlier), you can meet Revere at the Concord Museum at 11 am, 12:15 pm and 1 pm on Monday, April 17th.
Meet the Participants of April 19, 1775 (including
Rev. William Emerson and Jonas Bateman) at the Old North Bridge at 10 am on Tuesday, the 18th of April.
Greet the arrival of the Sudbury Militia and
Minute Companys at the Old North Bridge, at 11:30 am on April 19.
What's Henry David Thoreau doing here in this week of 18th century reenactments? Why, he's giving a talk entitled "Reflections: Looking Back on April 19, 1775" at the Old North Bridge on April 18th at
3:30 pm.
