Patriot's Day 2002

checkers, anyone?There a several events both in Concord and throughout our area commemorating the 227th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Below are some of the local offerings taking place between April 6th and 19th, 2002. Please note that these events are coordinated among many groups. All times are subject to change. Roads in Concord Center on the 15th will be closed to traffic starting at 8:30 , or see the Battle Road Website. All events are in Concord unless otherwise noted.
Saturday, April 6
  • 10:30 AM - Bedford Pole Capping (Bedford Minute Men)
  • 1:30 PM - *Meriam's Corner Exercise
  • 3:00 PM - Capture of Paul Revere, National Park Revere Capture Site, Rt. 2A, Lincoln

    Saturday, April 13
    Battle Road 2002

  • 9 AM - Meriam's Corner/McHugh Field on Old Bedford Rd
  • Noon - Bloody Angle and Hartwell Tavern off Rt. 2A (Lincoln)
  • 2:30 PM - Trainer's Field off Rt. 2A near Minute Man Visitors' Center (Lexington)
  • 7 PM, 7:30 PM, 8 PM -- "Heroes of Battle Road" musical/first person presentation, Hartwell Tavern, Rt. 2A (Lincoln)

  • 7:30 PM to Midnight - Patriots' Ball, Concord Armory, $25 per person. Call 978 369-9599 for info; tickets can be picked up at the Colonial Inn, Carr's and West Concord Pharmacy.

    Sunday, April 14

  • 10 AM-4 PM - Games, crafts and stories for the young, Hartwell Tavern, Rt. 2A (Lincoln)
  • 12:30 PM - 2nd annual Battle Road Muster - remembrance of Willow Pond Kitchen & 30th anniversary of the Middlesex County 4-H Fife and Drum; Fife & Drum Tattoo; parade from Hastings Park to Lexington Green followed by fife & drum units' performances (Lexington)
  • 7:30 PM - arrival of Capt. William Smith by horse and sounding of the alarm, Pierce House, White Church (Lincoln)
  • 8 PM - Lighting of the Lanterns - Boston, Old North Church

    Monday, April 15 (Patriot's Day observed)

  • Midnight Paul Revere Ride Re-enactment, Concord Center
  • 5:30 AM - Battle Green, Lexington, re-enactment
  • 6-10 AM - Pancake Breakfast (Lexington Lions)
  • 6 AM - Pancake Breakfast - Monument Hall (to Noon) (Concord Lions)
  • 6-9 AM - Issac Davis Trail March (Acton Minute Men and Boy Scouts)
  • 9 AM - Arlington Parade (Arlington)
  • 9 AM - *Concord's Patriots' Day Parade, including Commemoration of the Concord Conflict
  • 10:15 AM - *Parade returns through Concord Center and ends at Hunt Gym for a Collation
  • 11 AM-2 PM - Concord Museum, meet Samuel Adams and listen to a 1775 political debate among Concord citizens of the period on such issues as tea and liberty; refreshments, period music
  • 2 PM - Lexington Parade (Lexington)

    Thursday, April 18

  • 6:45 PM - Anniversary of Paul Revere's Ride, ceremony and reading of Longfellow's poem by lantern light, meet Paul Revere, National Park Capture Site, Rt. 2A (Lincoln)
  • 8 PM - Commemorate Revere's Ride, stories and songs with Paul's wife Rachel Revere, Minute Man Visitors' Center, National Park, Rt. 2A (Lincoln)

    Friday, April 19 (Traditional Patriot's Day)

  • 6 AM - *Dawn Salute - Buttrick Hillside, Minuteman National Historic Park, arrival of Dr. Prescott by horse, reading of the alarm notice to the Concord Minute Men, musket and cannon salute by the Concord Minute Men and the Concord Independent Battery
  • 7:30 AM - Remembrance Ceremony and Wreath Laying, Concord Minute Men, North Bridge
  • 9 AM-3 PM - "Eyewitness Jonas Bateman Remembers", North Bridge, meet farmer/minute man Bateman
  • 10:00 AM - Sudbury Companyes Minute Men and Militia arrive at North Bridge after recreated 1775 march from Sudbury, continue trek on to Hartwell Tavern
  • 11 AM-3 PM - Sudbury Companyes of Minute Men and Militia, drill, cooking, firing, demonstrations, Hartwell Tavern, Rt. 2A (Lincoln)

    Sunday, April 21

  • 2 PM - Commemorative Marking of colonial and British soldiers' graves; begin at Pierce House, march to Old Burying Ground, Lexington Road Cemetery (Lincoln)
