Welcome to Our
By Deborah Bier, Publisher & Editor of the Concord Magazine.
Note: Our usual presentation of the Concord Magazine is a series of articles on several subjects covering various aspects of Concord, Massachusetts. But not this November/December, 2000 issue: here we take a real departure from our previous 30-plus editions and end the year 2000 with something completely different. We hope you find it both useful and enjoyable. We will return to our usual format with the January/February 2001 issue.

Meet the Virtual Booklet
This magazine introduces you to Virtual Booklets. In the spirit of "this is the Internet and we aren't limited like we are when publishing on paper", they collect articles from our now-extensive archives and present them along a specific theme. The articles in the booklet remain in the locations where they originally appeared. The Virtual Booklet is like a back-of-the-book index...but a lot more fun, with new, beautiful artwork just for the pleasure of it.

We think they're pretty cool.

We present our first four Virtual Booklets (or VB's, for the initiated) in this edition....more will follow in the months ahead. They are on the subjects of:

Nature in Concord

Spirituality and Religion in Concord

Concord's Early History (pre 1750)

Concord Community Issues

Access them either via the links above or by clicking on their covers at right.

Ok, So What Good is a Virtual Booklet?
Both casual readers and researchers will enjoy our Virtual Booklets. VB's are great for four things we can think of....maybe you will discover other uses.

  1. They introduce you to back issues you might not have seen previously, or about which you have forgotten

  2. VB's help you easily trace the development of recurring topics over time

  3. They allow you to research a topic more quickly, having a wide range of articles readily available

  4. Reading different authors on a variety of aspects of a single topic can help develop new connections and understandings you might not have known were there,

More Booklets to Follow
In the future, we will publish additional VB's at irregular intervals, generally between issues of the Magazine. Future ones will cover 19th Century Concord, The Concord Fight, Concord People, The Arts in Concord, Concord in Images, plus a few more surprises.

We will update the VB's periodically, adding articles from new editions of the Magazine. If you are on our mailing list, we will send you an announcement of both new Virtual Booklets and new issues of the Concord Magazine

Want to Get Involved in this Publication?
We are always looking for contributors to future editions of the Concord Magazine. You do not need to have had previously published work, nor do you need to work or live in Concord. See our guidelines for writers, artists, photographers, etc.

Click on any of the Virtual Book covers below to view the booklet. You'll notice a new browser window will open up; this page will remain underneath so you can return here to explore other booklets.
