Autumn in Concord means forest, swamps and fields wearing their fall colors. It also harvest time and Concord's birthday (this year, our 366th anniversary was noted on September 12th). Below are a variety of photos and short takes on life here in September and October.
Pumpkin Harvest
How do those wonderful bright pumpkins -- both large and small -- get from the farmer's field to the farmstand or market? Lots and LOTS of labor is the answer. Here, Concord's Brigham Farm -- with the aid of many hands of all ages -- harvests thousands of pumpkins. Left and center: the trucks are loaded in the field. Right: long lines of pumpkin passers move the fruit from truck to storage. Lesson learned: don't EVER pick up a pumpkin by the handle -- it may fall off, and if it does it will rot. Concord's Birthday
Last year for the first time in over 50 years, we had fireworks in Concord. The occasion was Concord's 265th birthday. This year, in reaction to the terrorists attacks the day before, no celebration was held. (click image to enlarge)

Concord River
The Concord River at the Old North Bridge a showing late Summer/early Autumn overgrowth of duckweed. Nourished by the nitrogen of fertilizer-rich runoff water from lawns, golf courses and farms, these species thrive and create green swirls on our rivers' surface. (click image to enlarge)
