Orchid Sighted
In answer to your Concord Mystery question: I have seen Epipactus Helleborine. It
appeared next to our driveway, in full sun, last year. This year it is
a much larger plant and several more have appeared in the area, all in
sun. They are blooming now in the Adirondacks.
I identified it and found information on it in "A Guide to Field Identification, Wildflowers of North America" (Golden); "A Field Guide to Wildflowers" (Peterson); and inn "Summer & Fall Wildflowers of New England (Dwelley). All three are great books.
I enjoyed your web page.

Sadly, the grand specimin in the photos was not 3 weeks ago destroyed by the abutting homeowner. It was growing in a weedy margin between his lawn and the street and he covered the area with heavy landscape cloth and bark mulch to keep down the spreading growth of undesired plants.
Shame on Us
There is a serious concern I have for my own hometown. Unlike
our warm and welcoming neighbor, Lexington, we do nothing to welcome visitors.
We continuously fight over our visitor's center and roll up the streets at
5:30pm. In Lexington, every evening is filled with people walking the streets
and sitting either on the numerous park benches or at the many cafes and
resturaunts.
It is a sad and snobby feeling we send to everyone...I guess Concord is the
stereotype New England town everyone outside New England expects...unfriendly
and unwelcoming.
How sad because we have so much to share and we have a responsibility to share
it.

County Question
Hi, I need some info about your area. First, what county are you located in?
Second, who is the county sheriff? The location and address. of the county seat? A non-emergency phone number for the sheriff's office, too.
Robert, Hamilton, MI
Remember the Longfellow poem about Paul Revere's Ride ("....to ride and spread the alarm to every Middlesex village and farm...")? We are in Middlesex County.
Our Town Clerk, Anita Tekle, tells us that "Middlesex County as a political/administrative entity was dissolved as of
July, 1997. Responsibility for the Court House and prisons (formerly run by
the county) was assumed by the State. Other responsibilities were either
parceled out to the municipalities (e.g., dog licensing) or were turned over
to private entitities to manage. Middlesex County as a geographic domain
still exists -- i.e., each state is divided up into separate counties for
political boundary purposes. As you probably know, the county structure is
more significant in most other parts of the country where many functions are performed on a regional/county basis -- e.g. county sheriffs in lieu of local police departments. New England never had much use for county government, and it has long been perceived as an unnecessary
(and costly) layer of government."

Little Love-letters from Out of Town
The best site about Concord I've ever seen to date. I have been to Concord about two and a half years ago, to make further researches for my historical-novel inspired to the life of Henry D. Thoreau. I'm still writing it, being about halfway through...

Wonderful site ! Having spent 3 years living near Concord,(1967 to 1970) I felt a bit of home sickness sweep over me when I found this site. Oh, how I long to see the town and it's rich herritage again. I think I just talked myself into coming back to Mass. for my summer vacation this year.
JF, Harrisburg, PA
I love it! I wouldn't have thought a town so small as Concord would have such a good website. I'm from Concord but away at College. I come back whenever I can, but it makes me feel a little better about being so far from home to see this site from time to time.
BS, Chicago, IL
Congratulations on your great site. Please keep it growing. For we Concordians at heart who have moved away for one reason or another, it's a great way of never really leaving home.
