The Concord Magazine is Back!

By Deborah Bier, Publisher and Editor of this publication.
As you have guessed by now, the Concord Magazine has returned from a half-year sabbatical (see why we took a break here) -- and just in time to celebrate our 6th anniversary! Here is some of the correspondence we received while this ezine was snoozing.

Sorry to hear that the magazine is going to rest for awhile, having really enjoyed having it come thru my email!! Is that a picture of you -- the "middle aged bride"? I thank you for all the help you've been to me in my research!! Good luck in the future!!

this is our 6th anniversary issue! You have me weeping and smiling at the same time - I am so glad that you are okay. While waiting for the next issue, I was deeply curious about why you were taking a sabbatical, and so sorry to be losing the magazine even for just a short time. Reading your explanation, along with seeing your beautiful wedding picture, is very moving.

There has also been a LOT of passionate demand for the ezine's return. Luckily, I've also discovered that I'm not quite done with the Concord Magazine.

I've decided to continue to publish, but with some changes. I'm writing to you to tell you about them, to celebrate our anniversary, and to say that making a little space can do some surprising things in a person's life.

Changes at The Concord Magazine
Most recently, we have been publishing -- like clockwork -- four issues a year. In order to relieve deadline pressures and to create more flexibility, I'm going to remove the "clockwork" aspect of the publication.

click here to visit our Spring 2003 issue! We are going to become what is known in the trade as an "occasional". There will be no set publication date for new issues of the Concord Magazine. From now on, when I have received enough articles, have had the time to edit, illustrate and code them, and when it's all otherwise come together , THEN we will publish a new issue. Will this be once a year? Twice? Thrice? More? It's hard to say -- your contributions will make all the difference. Contact me if you have artwork or an article you'd like to contribute.

Enjoy the six months and stay in good health. Thank you for your leadership of our community.

I find that your Ezine is filled with many articles that help me to keep in touch with the things and places I relate to as my home. This has become very important to me now that I have lost my kidney functions and have to go on dialysis. In addition there have been several other complications that have caused me not to be able to travel back home. So you can see why an Ezine like yours are quite important to me. I hope you have a good Sabbatical. I will look forward to The Concord Magazine's return.

This Is Our 6th Anniversary Issue!

The Concord Magazine could not be the quality it is without all of their writing, research, artwork, and good council -- and great company! (Click on any of the back ezine covers on this page to visit that issue.)

We especially thank Rich Stevenson, Leslie Wilson, Mike Ryan, Don Stevenson, Kristina Joyce and her art students, Carol Haines, Liz Nelson, Brenda Russell, Conni Manoli-Skocay, Melissa Saalfield, Steffy Bushra Khan, Margo Van Kuren, Ginger Allison and Donna Cunningham. We also thank the local businesses who support this ezine -- please see them listed in our online business directory.

Best of luck in this new phase of life. With your positive attitude and many talents I know that multitudes will benefit, as they have already. Have fun, too! Cheers!

Say it ain't so, Deborah. I used to deliver mail in Concord (you were one of my customers). I changed careers six years ago. The ezine is one of the only ways I stay informed about events in Concord.

Three Surprises While I Was Away
Well, I haven't been away from CONCORD, just away from having to meet the ezine's publication schedule. And there have been three unexpected things that happened when I made some space in my life.

Click here to visit our Autumn 2003 issue! The first is that when I went on sabbatical, I thought there was NO WAY I would EVER feel like continuing with the Concord Magazine. Imagine my surprise when after the New Year I started thinking there was still more for me to do here!

The second is that I heard from so many people I didn't realize were reading the ezine, or who knew and remembered me from a variety of walks of life. Including my old mail carrier -- what fun to hear from you all! Don't make strangers of yourselves now that we're back, folks!

The third is that I realized I wanted to finish up my Ph.D. I had no clue that that idea was still lurking inside of me until I put aside the ezine for a while. So I will do just that -- hopefully by the end of this year -- in the field of therapeutic counseling, with the emphasis on spiritual psychology and holistic studies. My shift back to my practice as a holistic healthcare educator and practitioner continues to be my focus...though I will continue to serve my current web clients and might even taken on a few special web projects in the future. You will see evidence of this commitment in our new feature, The Concord Wellness Tour, beginning in this edition.
