Patriots' Day Events 2006

Below are some local events commemorating the start of the American Revolution in April of 1775.

It is best to check locally to confirm the specifics of these listings. (Thanks to the Town of Concord's Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee and Minute Man National Historic Park for this information!)

Saturday, April 8

Meriam's Corner Exercise -- Meriam's Corner, Lexington Rd. Concord (Muster at Ripley School) -- 1:30 PM. The Town of Concord, area minute companies, and Minute Man National Historical Park commemorate the fight at Meriam's Corner.

Paul Revere Capture Ceremony -- Paul Revere Capture Site, Rt. 2A, Lincoln -- 3:00 p.m. The Lincoln Minute Men and the Town of Lincoln, joined by area minute companies, observe the capture of Paul Revere.

Saturday, April 15

more bangs!Battle Road 2006: The Prelude to War -- Hartwell Tavern Historical Area, Rt. 2A, Lincoln -- 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Join British and Colonial Reenactors, Park Rangers and Volunteers re-enact a day leading up to the outbreak of war on April 19, 1775. Activities include drill and musket firing demonstrations, cooking, clothing repair and recruiting for the colonial militia, and as life in the British Camp.

Monday, April 17

Battle Re-enactment -- Lexington Green -- 5:30 a.m.

Commemoration of the Concord Conflict -- North Bridge, Concord -- 8:30 a.m. -- British and Colonial Reenactors, Park Rangers and Volunteers commemorate the morning of April 19, 1775 and the Concord Fight.

Concord's Patriots' Day Parade -- 9 AM (Muster at National Guard Amory) -- This parade makes a circle up Main Street to the North Bridge, and then back Main Street again (exact route to be determined based on water levels at the North Bridge that morning).

5th Annual Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony -- North Bridge -- 7:30 PM. Sponsored by The Old Manse. 600 luminaries, patriotic music and remembrance held by the North Bridge. Bring a flashlight. Free.

Wednesday, April 19

Dawn Salute -- North Bridge area, Concord -- 6:00 a.m. -- Muster at Buttrick's Hillside for this re-enactment of the delivery of orders by Dr. Samuel Prescott and their reading to the assembled.

North Bridge Remembrance Ceremony -- North Bridge Area, Concord -- 7:30 a.m.

Arrival of the Sudbury Militia -- North Bridge, Concord -- approximately 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, April 22

"Battle Road Heroes" -- Hartwell Tavern -- 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Listen to re-enacted personal stories of those who lived along the Battle Road on April 19, 1775. Join Captain William Smith, the Hartwells, drovers, musicians and His Majesty's Soldiers.

Admission for "Battle Road Heroes" is $5.00 per person. Proceeds benefit the Minute Man National Park Association.
