A stone monument stands next to an abandoned well beside Old Road to Nine Acre Corner on the property of the New England Deaconess Association in Concord, Massachusetts. This Spring was the 100th anniversary of the sinking of that well. The names of eight men who helped William Connors sink it are listed on the monument (photo below left).
At that time, the property may have belonged to Ralph Waldo Emerson's nephew, Charles Emerson. In 1910 or 1911, he gave 100 acres of land at this site to the New England Deaconess Association. This land is now occupied by Emerson Hospital and by facilities for care of the elderly owned by the New England Deaconess Association.
