Why No Taxi or Bus for Visitors?
My 10-year-old and my wife and I visited Concord this past winter,
coming out by train from Boston, where we stayed for four days.
We were warned that we wouldn't be able to walk from the railroad
station to various sites, the Alcott house and Walden Pond, and it was
true. Of course, I had visited Walden Pond and the Hawthorne house many years
ago in a better season, not after the huge snow we had a few days before
we arrived in Concord.
Yet, even though we were warned that Concord has no buses and no taxis,
what a shame: an eager, excited ten year old with a dad and mom who
didn't want to drive the icy roads, but no bus and no cab to let us show
him a few gems of American history.
Surely there are good reasons to have no buses and no cabs, I'm sure,
but don't you want to re-think this to allow those who still want to go
on foot a chance to take a look at your beautiful city?

[Thoreau quote below supplied by Dr. Sage]
"I frequently tramped eight or ten miles through the deepest snow
to keep an appointment with a beech-tree,
or a yellow birch, or an old acquaintance among the pines."
That's a LOT of Grapes
Did you know that the Yakima Valley in Washington is sometimes called the nation's fruit bowl for its bounty of crops? Juice grapes are a $40 million industry and Washington state is the No. 1 producer of Concord grapes.

I Want the Blues
I read your story about the West Concord Bluing Factory. Where do I find the powder laundry bluing. I have a old ringer type washer.

Our Editor replies: Though we have never used it, we do see that Mrs. Stuart's Bluing can be ordered online. That website also has advice for getting it into a store near you.
Ya Gotta Help Me!
I have a school project due real soon. I need you send me some info about Emerson. I gotta have it snailmailed to me. I can't print it off the web. What can I do to or for you to
get you to give me some info? I'll do any thing just
name it.
Kevin Mcghee
Our Editor replies: What can you do to or for us? Hmmm..... We simply do not have anything to snailmail to you or anyone else. We have over 500 pages of information on our site about Concord and Concord subjects. Use our site-wide search engine to find what you are looking for.
