Thoreau Almanac

We leave this back page to a continuing series of quotes from
Henry David Thoreau, paired with a Concord scene.

Winter's Turn Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

(Journal, August 23, 1853)
Concord artist Kristina Joyce who drew this self-portrait says of it: "Winter is a difficult time for me except that I love to ski. So, when there is snow, I take a cross-country skiing lunch half-hour to follow the words of my favorite Thoreau quote (above). I am calling the colored pencil reversal of me on cross-country skis 'Winters Turn.' Since I am a new grandmother for the first time, I wanted to pass on something very personal to my granddaughter born this past March."
